Wunderfaire!

I am selling my wares at this year's Wunderfaire, a craft fair put on by IDEO in San Francisco. It's all happening on Thursday, December 5 from 4:30-8:00pm. I will be selling my fiber jewelry as well as my plant pockets (the sewn ones and the knit ones too!). It's at IDEO Pier 28 Annex on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. There will be over 40 vendors, delicious food, live crafting events and a percentage of the proceeds directly benefits these three organizations: Creative Growth, YBCA Young Artists at Work Program and IDEO.org. Come by, say hi, grab some delicious food and knock some of those items off your holiday shopping list!

art for SFBC's Winterfest 2013

I am donating this piece, called Spin, to the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's annual Winterfest art auction. Come to the event on Sunday, November 3, place a bid and raise money for SFBC! I am a daily bike rider in SF and this organization continues to do so much to make it safer and fun to ride here in the city. I love that I get to be a part of helping them make things happen.

West Coast Craft

I will be a vendor at the upcoming West Coast Craft, a craft and design show featuring carefully selected designers, artists and craftspeople living on the West Coast. It promises to be a fantastic event and I am creating some new items for the show. I am super excited that so many of the talented folks I know will also be there showing and selling their wares. Come and support hand made! Hope to see you there.

West Coast Craft takes place November 16 & 17, 2013 from 10 am - 6 pm at Fort Mason's Festival Pavilion in San Francisco, CA.

New plant pockets in my Etsy shop

I just listed a few of these tiny canvas plant pockets in my Etsy shop. These hand sewn pockets are perfect for air plants, collected stones, or any favorite item you want to showcase on your wall. They are made from canvas with two hole-punched leather tabs that can be used to hang off nails or hooks. I came up with these pockets to feature my ever growing collection of tillandsias. I am working on a larger size pocket as well and will post these when they are available for purchase.

Superduperultracool Shoppe

My friend Lisa Solomon curated an excellent pop-up shoppe that is open in the store front of NIAD Art Center in Richmond, CA from March 15 - April 26. She asked me to include some necklaces and a few of my mom's amazing knitted wall hangings. There are also numerous other Bay Area artists selling their wares. Check out the shoppe as well as the gallery space at NIAD Art Center. They are a fantastic organization doing great things for adult artists with disabilities. My visit there was inspirational.

career day blog post

Micaela over at Drifter and the Gypsy blog kindly featured me in her latest Career Day post. I got the chance to answer questions about my full time position as a retail display designer and about my own personal work. Plus she featured pics of my studio and work. It was such a pleasure to be a part of and I hope it inspires some young people out there.

holiday card making

I spent a little bit of time today adding to this year's holiday card. I am loving shades of orange and lots of circles/dots. Each card is hand drawn and painted and no two are exactly the same. I am making about 55 cards this year. Here's a photo of some of the images that inspired me.

I donated this piece to the SFBC (San Francisco Bicycle Coalition) Winterfest 2011 Art Auction. It's happening this coming Sunday, December 4 in San Francisco. I picked up this new book documenting Jim Denevan's large scale drawing on Lake Baikal in Siberia. (I also got to meet him and had him sign my copy!) It's full of gorgeous photos and includes a film of the project. I was so inspired by a number of things: the sheer beauty of the drawing, the enormous scale of the project, the collaborative nature of it all and the willingness to create something so ephemeral. The film delves a bit into what it all means to the artist as well. Learn more about the project here.
